Who was Pushpa Agashe? Social activist tragically killed in Thane hit-and-run incident





Pushpa Agashe passes away: In a tragic incident, Social activist Pushpa Agashe was killed in a hit-and-run case in Thane on January 23. According to the police, the 73-year-old activist was returning from her morning walk when a vehicle hit her, as reported by PTI. She was taken to the hospital and was declared dead on arrival.

Regarding the case, the police are looking for the vehicle based on the CCTV footage in the area.

Who was Pushpa Agashe?

Pushpa Agashe worked for 28 years at the Department of Atomic Energy and earned the title of Best Employee in 2008.

Since 1981, she and her husband, Shreepad Agashe, worked on raising awareness about eye donation and actively supported organ, skin, and body donation.

After her tragic death, Pushpa Agashe’s eyes were successfully donated through the help of the Sahiyara Eye Bank at Thane Civil Hospital, as reported by PTI.

On retirement, she devoted her energy to helping blind students.

Over the last decade, she focused on reducing plastic waste, promoting its reuse, and advocating for limiting plastic use.

She was also involved in looking after abandoned children. She was an active member of the widely successful “Dhanya Bank” which supports under privileged people with food grains.

She also played the role of Sadhana Amte in Samruddhi Pore-directed film “Prakash Vaata” which had Nana Patekar in the lead role.

Pushpa Agashe is survived by husband, two sons, including PTI journalist Ashish Agashe, two daughter-in-laws and a grandson.

UP hit-and-run case

A hit-and-run accident on the Rae Bareli-Prayagraj highway left one person dead and injured four others, including BJP state secretary Abhijat Mishra, officials told PTI on January 16. The accident occurred on January 15 night near Pragatipuram when a speeding car hit two pedestrians. A video clip of the incident purportedly showed a hatchback speeding away with one of its doors open even as two riders had fallen on the side of the highway and some locals trying to intercept the erring vehicle.
