A day after uproar over Donald Trump’s statement that the United States would take over the Gaza Strip, he attempted to explain what he wants to do with Gaza after the White House clarified that there would be no US soldiers in Gaza and no money of US taxpayers would be funnelled toward Gaza. “The Gaza Strip would be turned over to the United States by Israel at the conclusion of fighting. The Palestinians, people like Chuck Schumer, would have already been resettled in far safer and more beautiful communities, with new and modern homes, in the region,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
“They would actually have a chance to be happy, safe, and free. The U.S., working with great development teams from all over the World, would slowly and carefully begin the construction of what would become one of the greatest and most spectacular developments of its kind on Earth. No soldiers by the U.S. would be needed! Stability for the region would reign!!!” Trump added.
In a bilateral press conference where Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as also present, Donald Trump said those who are living in Gaza strip which has become a hell should leave the territory while the region should be developed. “The US will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too,” Trump said.
“We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site, level the site, and get rid of the destroyed buildings — level it out and create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area.”
As Trump’s takeover plan faced resistance from world leaders, secretary of state Marco Rubio said the idea was not meant as hostile but it was an offer to rebuild and to be in charge of rebuilding and that it was a generous move — not a military one. Commenting on whether Trump meant that Palestinians should leave Gaza and settle in neighbouring countries, Rubio said it was meant for the interim period when Gaza is rebuilt.
“It’s a demolition site right now. It’s not a livable place for any human being,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said walking back on ‘takeover’ issue. Leavitt said Trump had been “very clear” that he expected Egypt, Jordan and others “to accept Palestinian refugees, temporarily, so that we can rebuild their home”.
