Donald Trump requests Russian President Vladimir Putin to spare Ukrainian lives: ‘Very good chance that this horrible…’

US President Donald Trump on Friday said that he had productive discussions with President Vladimir Putin of Russia, and stated that there is very good chance that this horrible bloody war can finally come to an end.

In a Truth Social, Trump said that he requested that Putin spare the lives of “completely surrounded” Ukrainian troops.

“We had very good and productive discussions with President Vladimir Putin of Russia yesterday, and there is a very good chance that this horrible, bloody war can finally come to an end,” said Trump in a post on Truth Social.

“BUT, AT THIS VERY MOMENT, THOUSANDS OF UKRAINIAN TROOPS ARE COMPLETELY SURROUNDED BY THE RUSSIAN MILITARY, AND IN A VERY BAD AND VULNERABLE POSITION,” added Trump.

“This would be a horrible massacre, one not seen since World War II. God bless them all!!!,” Trump added.

Trump today again pressed Russia to sign and complete “a Cease Fire and Final Agreement”, saying in a post on his private social media platform that he would extract the US from what he called a “real ‘mess’ with Russia”.

Meanwhile, Kremlin has said that Putin has sent Donald Trump a message about his proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine via Trump’s special envoy, adding that it saw grounds for “cautious optimism” that a deal could be reached, reported Reuters.

On Thursday, Putin said that he supported Trump’s ceasefire proposal in principle, but that fighting could not be paused until a number of crucial conditions were worked out.

Putin also thanked world leaders, including US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their “noble mission” to end the fighting between Ukraine and Russia.

“We all have enough issues to deal with. But many heads of state, the president of the People’s Republic of China, the Prime Minister of India, the presidents of Brazil and South African Republic are spending a lot of time dealing with this issue. We are thankful to all of them, because this is aimed at achieving a noble mission, a mission to stop hostilities and the loss of human lives,” Putin said.

“Secondly, we agree with the proposals to stop hostilities. But our position is that this ceasefire should lead to a long-term peace and eliminate the initial causes of this crisis.”
