A new poll released on Wednesday indicates that over half of Americans are not satisfied with the way President Trump has handled the economy. According to a CNN poll, 56% of those surveyed disapprove of Trump’s economic policy since he took office. Meanwhile, 44% approve, and 1% have no opinion on the issue.
The results closely identical with public perception of Trump’s general performance as a president. The survey found that 54% disapprove of his performance as president, whereas 45% approve, and 1% remain unsure.
Republicans back Trump’s economic initiatives
However, the support for Trump continues to be high among voters who voted for Republicans in 2024. According to the poll, 92% of Republicans support his presidency, 88% back his economic policies. Similarly, 91% support his overall performance.
Trump’s economic policies have been under scanner, particularly his trade tariffs. Due to his recent actions, the stock market has plummeted as fears of a recession loom.
In a recent interview with Fox News on “Sunday Morning Futures,” Trump was asked whether or not he anticipated a recession in the short term. He did not dismiss it, but he described that America is experiencing a “period of transition.”
“I hate to predict things like that,” Trump said to host Maria Bartiromo when asked about the possibility of a recession this year. “There is a period of transition, because what we’re doing is very big. We’re creating wealth in America. That’s a big one. And there are always some it takes a little bit of time. But I think it’s going to be great for us. I mean, I think it’s going to be great.”
The survey collected response of 1,206 people from March 6 to 9. The poll’s margin is 3.3 percentage points.
