Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday accused India of engaging in “escalatory and provocative behaviour” during a phone call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to a statement from Islamabad. Sharif urged the US to impress upon India to dial down the “rhetoric” and “act responsibly” following the Pahalgam terror attack, the statement added.
India’s foreign ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Sharif warned that “India’s provocations would only serve to distract Pakistan from its ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, particularly from militant groups,” the statement from his office added.
