President Donald Trump confirmed that a luxury jet offered by the government of Qatar will serve as a temporary Air Force One, a move that has raised ethical and security concerns in Washington.
“It will be used by our Government as a temporary Air Force One, until such time as our new Boeings, which are very late on delivery, arrive,” Trump said in a social-media post.
“The Boeing 747 is being given to the United States Air Force/Department of Defense, NOT TO ME! It is a gift from a Nation, Qatar, that we have successfully defended for many years. It will be used by our Government as a temporary Air Force One, until such time as our new Boeings, which are very late on delivery, arrive. Why should our military, and therefore our taxpayers, be forced to pay hundreds of millions of Dollars when they can get it for FREE from a country that wants to reward us for a job well done. This big savings will be spent, instead, to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! Only a FOOL would not accept this gift on behalf of our Country. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Earlier, Trump stated that the country “should have the most impressive plane” compared to those acxused by other world leaders. He criticized the current Air Force One, calling it “much smaller” and “much less impressive” than aircraft used by other nations.
Trump defended his administration’s acceptance of a luxurious Boeing 747-8 from Qatar’s royal family, rejecting Democratic criticism and dismissing his opponents as “world-class losers.”
During Trump’s first term, his administration signed a deal with Boeing for two new 747 8 aircraft to replace the aging Air Force One fleet. Originally scheduled for delivery in 2024, the project has faced repeated delays.
