A woman gave birth outside the Police General Hospital building in Bangkok during earthquake tremors in Thailand. Medical teams immediately responded, ensuring the safety of both mother and child, confirmed Police Colonel Sirikul Srisanga, the hospital’s spokesperson.
Videos shared on social media, which quickly went viral, show the woman lying on a stretcher, surrounded by hospital staff who assisted in the delivery.
A user on the social media platform X also posted a video of the newborn, describing it as a baby born on the streets of Bangkok.
According to the Thai Enquirer, the hospital did not have a specific earthquake response plan in place. Instead, staff implemented the fire evacuation protocol, prioritizing patient safety. Patients were moved to three designated safe zones, while civil engineers assessed the buildings for structural integrity.
Critical patients were triaged into red, yellow, and green zones to ensure efficient medical care during the emergency. Despite the chaotic conditions, emergency services remained fully operational.
On Friday, two powerful earthquakes—measuring 7.7 and 6.4 in magnitude—struck Myanmar at approximately 12:50 p.m. local time. The epicentre was located near Sagaing, about 16 kilometres northwest of the town.
The tremors were felt as far away as Bangkok, Thailand, causing buildings to sway, swimming pools to overflow, and panicked residents to rush into the streets.
According to Burmese state media, the death toll from the earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand has surpassed 1,000, with a US agency warning that the number could exceed 10,000.
