Watch: ‘Ruined this place’— JD Vance booed at Kennedy Center after Trump takeover

US Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, were booed as they arrived at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington on Thursday.

The couple attended a concert by folk musicians Nora Brown and Stephanie Coleman. Videos circulating on X showed the crowd reacting as they recognized Vance, with audience members loudly booing him. One attendee was heard shouting, “You ruined this place.”

Unperturbed by the boos, JD Vance smiled and even waved at the crowd while conversing with his wife.

The couple stayed for the entire performance. However, all audience members had to undergo a full Secret Service security check, delaying the performance by 20 minutes.

This marked Vance’s first visit to the Kennedy Center after Donald Trump appointed himself as the chairperson of the board. Usha Vance is also a board member.

In February, President Donald Trump took control of the Kennedy Center with plans to reshape the institution’s programming. He dismissed the board Chairman and 13 trustees and installed himself as the new chair. Trump appointed Richard Grenell, a close aide, as the interim leader. The US president has since declared that the Center will no longer host “woke” performances.
