what is autopen – What is autopen, device Joe Biden allegedly used to sign pardon documents?

The autopen is in the news after US President Donald Trump accused his predecessor Joe Biden of using the mechanical device to sign the pardoning documents. The US president has said that all pardons signed by Joe Biden are invalid.

In a post on Truth Social, he said, “The ‘Pardons’ that Sleepy Joe Biden gave to the Unselect Committee of Political Thugs, and many others, are hereby declared VOID, VACANT, AND OF NO FURTHER FORCE OR EFFECT because of the fact that they were done by Autopen. In other words, Joe Biden did not sign them but, more importantly, he did not know anything about them!”

Biden, in his final moments as president, had issued preemptive pardons to several individuals, including his family members – brothers James and Francis Biden, sister Valerie Biden Owens, and their spouses.

What is Autopen?

An autopen is a mechanical machine that copies a person’s signature. It helps people like politicians, business leaders, and celebrities to sign multiple papers quickly.

How does Autopen work?

The person’s signature is saved in the machine. A robotic arm or pen copies the signature onto papers. It looks like a handwritten signature, but it’s made by the machine. This technology has been used for many years.

This isn’t the first instance where Autopen has made headlines. Former US president Barack Obama used an autopen to affix his signature to a bill extending three provisions of the Patriot Act. It happened during the G8 Summit in France in May 2011.

According to Daily Mail, there are at least 25 copies of Trump’s signature on official government papers. It indicated that he, the machine, is used to sign documents during his presidency.
