A new book reveals that Donald Trump surprised former vice president Kamala Harris and her team with an unexpectedly gracious tone during their post-election call.
Known for his combative style, Trump reportedly praised Harris as a “tough cookie” and congratulated her for running a “great” campaign when she conceded his 2024 election victory, the New York Post reported. The moment caught many off guard, adding an unexpected twist to their political rivalry.
According to Chris Whipple’s upcoming book Uncharted: How Trump Beat Biden, Harris, and the Odds in the Wildest Campaign in History, Kamala Harris reportedly told Trump during her concession call, “I’m calling to concede. It was a fair election. The peaceful transfer of power is important. It’s important to the country.”
This exchange, as detailed in the book, took place the day after the election. Whipple’s new book will hit the market on Tuesday.
However, Harris couldn’t resist a subtle jab during her call, telling Trump, “I hope you’re president for all Americans.” Surprisingly, Trump responded with grace and praised Harris for her campaign calling her a “tough cookie.”
“You’re a tough cookie. You were really great. And that Doug — what a character! I love that guy,” Trump said, referring to Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff.
One of Harris’ aides, Whipple wrote, found the moment “odd and inappropriate.” “I was like, what?” she recalled. “Honestly, I felt like, what is this? It’s so manipulative. He’s a sociopath,” Whipple quoted the aide in the book, according to an excerpt obtained by the Daily Mail.
The 2024 presidential election saw Kamala Harris, once a symbol of the Democratic Party’s future, suffer a decisive rejection by American voters. This significant loss, compounded by Joe Biden’s faltering reelection, has triggered a moment of profound reckoning for the party.
Chris Whipple’s book also delves into the reasons behind Kamala Harris’s loss. One of the key challenges highlighted was her inability to distance herself from President Joe Biden. In what was widely viewed as a ‘change’ election, many voters saw Trump — not Harris — as the candidate of change.
